UN General Assembly, Part II

So, the el presidente of Venezuela had a lot to say about the U.S. president. Nothing pleasent. A lot of insult. I remember when I was younger, women from venezuela used to win the miss world pagent. They were beautiful But their president seems like an ugly dude. I mean, why do you go to the man’s own country and say all those things about the person. It’s like going to a party, getting drunk and really bad mouthing the host. If you dont like the way a country is being run, don;t go there. Do all your protests from home.

In someways, this seems to be what most people are doing at the asembly these days (president of my own country included). Great opportunity to whine around to the entire world (well, those few people who don’t have much to do and are paying attention at least) about their opposers or suppressors or enemys. What a bunch of loosers.

The UN General Assembly

Listening to the Iranian president speak at the UN council in NY, I couldn’t help but wonder how much it felt like the security council scenes in the Star Wars movies. He made an interesting point in questioning the UN security council’s ability make unbiased decisions on issues like Iraq when it’s occupiers were permenent members of the council. He ended his speech on a religous note, stating the the all mighty god wants all his creatures (including humans) to live in peace and harmony.

President Bush had spoken as well. He talked about the coalition. "We will continue to train those of you who step forward to fight the enemies of freedom. We will not yield the future of your country to terrorists and extremists." He specically addressed the people of Iran as well:

"To the people of Iran, the United States respects you. We respect your country. We admire your rich history, your vibrant culture and your many contributions to civilization. You deserve an opportunity to determine your own future, an economy that rewards your intelligence and your talents, and a society that allows you to fulfill your tremendous potential. The greatest obstacle to this future is that your rulers have chosen to deny you liberty and to use your nation’s resources to fund terrorism and fuel extremism and pursue nuclear weapons. …"

He also said "Freedom, by its nature, cannot be imposed." Ha! I urge you to read the entire speech. It’s quite facinating.

Everybody says they want peace. Their version of peace! Listening to all these world leaders pretend, I don’t know if there had been any other time in history where there had been this much disagreement (among leaders) and misunderstandings (among ordinary folk). It doesn’t really look like the ideas are converging at all. Infact, the opposite seems to be taking place. Whether it is in politics, religion or economics. If consensus is the way to world peace or economic prosperity .. we’re really screwed here.

But who needs consensus anyway? I’m my world and I make the rules. Stop by for further instructions!

Running out of gas ...

Letterman vs. O’Reilly & The Liberal Dating Scene

For those who missed the show, watch David Letterman take on O’Reilly.

While going there I also noticed an ad for this interesting online dating site – A place where democrats, liberals and activists can finally find love among those who think alike. Yeah, these leberal types really are sexy, dammit!

The kind of Democracy

This morning I was scanning through the news, and noticed the WA state 2005 election results. There was one particular initiative that caught my eye. I-336, to decertify bad doctors. Either the state of washington voters are really dumb or they are all doctors. Who would vote against decertfying bad doctors? I mean, c’mon that doesn’t make any sense. What am i missing? I-336 lost with only 41% of the voters saying yes, lets decertify those quacks.

This brings up an interesting point. How many ordinary * people (with voting rights) have the time to really read, familiarize themselves with and understand each and every initiative on the ballot? This is designed to be a non-starter. As if people have the time to do this. And the advertising about these initiative don’t help anyway. Say no to this. Say yes to that. While you’re at it can you scratch my back?

Oh well, why am I even being bothered with politics. It must’ve been something I ate last night.

1pm update – Wow! I didn’t realize that I had such a knowledgeable readership :) Seriously, very thoughtful and educated responses. But I have to say, it;s hard to beat the passion demonstrated by waking up at 3.30am and doing all that research to respond to a blog post. Keep up the good work.

As a side note, how about hitting Shiro’s tonight? Perhaps *you two* can even continue the discussion.
